Demand quality education and healthcare in Buliisa District
The Issue
I am deeply connected to the community of Buliisa District, where many families, including my own, have sacrificed their land for the sprawling development of a $10 billion oil and gas project. This ambitious endeavor promised prosperity, yet the reality we face is starkly different. With our communal land lost to infrastructure, traditional means of livelihood, such as cattle grazing, have dwindled, leaving families financially crippled.
The construction of the 'oil and gas Bugungu museum' looms over us, initiated without our consent. We are the ones who bear the brunt of the environmental impacts from this project—pollution that threatens our health and the very air we breathe. In light of these challenges, our priority lies not in a museum but in securing a promising future for our children through top-notch education.
We urge the Buliisa District Local Government to reject the museum proposal and instead, focus on building a high-quality science secondary school or even a university. These educational institutions are crucial for empowering our youth, providing them with the knowledge and skills needed to elevate their impoverished families and shape a better future.
Moreover, healthcare is a pressing need in our community due to the anticipated increase in health issues stemming from environmental pollution. We advocate for a fully funded Total Energies hospital, ensuring that those affected by oil and gas-related diseases receive the medical care they deserve.
By signing this petition, we stand united for meaningful development and the well-being of Buliisa’s citizens. Let us prioritize education and healthcare, ensuring our community not only thrives but also sustains its cultural and environmental heritage. Support us in demanding a brighter, healthier future for Buliisa District.
