Demand more balanced media coverage of the Gaza-Israel war
The Issue
I would be grateful if the media could have a more balanced coverage of the Gaza-Israel war which was started by Hamas on October 7th, as this biased reporting is contributing to increased antisemitism.
Israel is constantly being attacked. In the last 3 months alone, Israel has had to endure 13,000 rocket attacks and 2,600 terror attacks. Prior to this, they had to put up with 2,000 terror attacks every year and 500 rocket attacks every day, and the people of Israel are sick and tired of having to spend half their lives stuck in bomb shelters. Israel wants to live in peace, but they cannot do this without eliminating the Islamic terror organisations that want to destroy Israel. They are being attacked by Hamas, Hezbollah, the Islamic State and the Houthis, and are enduring attacks from SIX countries. On top of that, these terror organisations are receiving training, funding and weapons provided by Iran, China, North Korea, South Africa and Russia, as well as money given to them by charities which is meant to be sent to civilians, but which is confiscated and misused by Hamas. Hamas steal and misdirect humanitarian aid, using it to build palaces and mansions for billionaire Hamas leaders like Sinwar, and using it to make weapons and build underground terror networks.
The official data on civilian deaths which is often quoted by the media is misleading. Lawyers For Israel have pointed out that "these figures have been fabricated. These statistics are produced by the Hamas controlled Ministry of Health, and then circulated by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) as well as other UN bodies. The Palestinian statistics are also deployed in a way that implies wrongly that all the Palestinians killed were civilians, as there is no reference to the number of Palestinian combatants killed. The ratio of civilians to combatants killed is particularly relevant when assessing the proportionality of Israeli military actions and hence whether they are likely to have violated international humanitarian law.”
Jonathan Turner, chief executive of UKLFI commented: “Credence given to these allegations is fuelling antisemitism on a major scale and is also liable to lead to incorrect decisions by public authorities on important issues.”
The Israel Defence Forces estimated that 13,000 Palestinian combatants had been killed by the end of February 2024. This indicates a ratio of civilian to combatant deaths of less than 1.5:1, even if the apparently fabricated total figures produced by the Gaza Health Ministry are used. This ratio is much lower than the usual ratio of civilian to combatant casualties in urban warfare, as indicated by a Report by the UN Secretary General which found that in urban armed conflicts worldwide in 2021, 89% of the casualties were civilians.
Other articles which prove that these statistics are false include:
"How the Gaza Ministry of Health Fakes Casualty Numbers” by Prof Abraham Wyner
"Statistically Impossible: A Critical Analysis of Hamas’s Women and Children Casualty Figures” by Profs Tom Simpson, Lewi Stone and Gregory Rose
"Gaza Fatality Data Has Become Completely Unreliable” by Gabriel Epstein from The Washington Institute
“The numbers of dead in Gaza don’t add up – and there is no easy explanation” by Mark Zlochin in The Telegraph
“Close review of Gaza casualty figures reported by UNOCHA based on daily Hamas ‘Ministry of Health’ numbers proves they are falsified” by Salo Aizenberg
The ratio of soldier to civilian deaths in Gaza is 1.5:1 - the lowest casualty rate ever recorded in history. This is especially impressive since Hamas places its infrastructure, launch pads, bunkers and ammunitions in densely populated areas and near hospitals and schools.
People are unfairly criticising Israel for their conduct in this war which Hamas started. If you watch the Stand With Us videos on Youtube, you can see videos of the Israel Defence Forces evacuating and escorting Palestinian civilians to safe areas and providing aid and medical assistance to them. In fact, the IDF have evacuated 1.5 million Gazan civilians to safe zones, and, unlike other armies, the IDF has a whole unit dedicated to evacuation efforts. It is called the Population Evacuation Unit. This unit uses an advanced digital map that divides Gaza into over 600 polygons, enabling evacuations from very specific areas. The IDF employs phones calls, text messages, flyers, loudspeakers and media platforms to warn civilians to evacuate. No other army in the world lets its enemies know of impending attacks, because this would risk the lives of its own army members. Using various tools, the Population Evacuation Unit can keep tabs on how many residents have left a given area. What warning did Hamas give before they slaughtered thousands of people, kidnapped hundreds and beheaded innocent babies? John Spencer, Chair of the Urban Welfare Studies at the Modern War Institute at West Point and a retired US military officer has stated that “Israel has taken more measures to avoid needless civilian harm than virtually any other nation that’s fought an urban war...No military in modern world history has faced over 30,000 urban defenders in more than seven cities using human shields and hiding in hundreds of miles of underground networks purposely built under civilian cites, while holding hundreds of hostages. The sole reason for civilian deaths in Gaza is Hamas.”
Unlike Hamas and Hezbollah, Israel does not deliberately target civilians and they try their best to minimise casualties. The official procedure of the Israel Defence Force is to strike targets based on intel, and military necessity for close air support. They carefully consider the right munitions to minimize collateral damage to accurately strike Hamas even though it operates within civilian areas. During each military strike, they carefully monitor the target area. If it does not comply with the IDF’s Standard Operating Procedures, they will abort. Regarding Israel’s use of unguided bombs, the claim that such munitions are indiscriminate or cause uncontrollable damage is misleading. Even though these munitions are not GPS-guided, they are still used accurately. It is released in a specific release point calculated by the aircraft’s system to allow the pilot to strike a target accurately. Heavy munitions are detonated underground, preventing fragmentation and significantly reducing the blastwave and debris as a result. In these strikes, the resulting crater visible in satellite images indicates that the underground detonation has actually occurred on a military target, and directly minimised damage to the surrounding areas. Additionally, in many cases, the IDF use small PGMs (precision-guided munitions) to strike targets near sensitive areas. Those targets include rocket launchers, commanders, tunnel shafts, and command and control centres, which are located throughout the Gaza Strip.
Israel continues to supply water and electricity to Palestine even though the Palestinians have fired 500 rockets into Israel every day for years and commit 2000 terror attacks on Israeli civilians every year. Hamas has governed Gaza since 2005, so Hamas are the ones who should be supplying the citizens with water and electricity, but they don't care about their own civilians, hence their extensive use of human shields and recruitment of child soldiers, as documented in Hamas continues recruiting child soldiers: Where is the condemnation? - The Jerusalem Post (jpost.com) and Houthis Recruit More Child Soldiers Following Hamas Attack (businessinsider.com).
Many people in the UK do not realise that the reason Hamas governs Gaza is because the people of Gaza voted for Hamas, because in their manifesto they pledged to wipe out the state of Israel and kill the Jews. Many Israelites are killed in terrorist attacks because of Palestine’s Pay to Slay scheme. This is the policy of the Palestinian Authority (PA) which offers large and continuous cash payments and other incentives to individuals who carry out terrorist acts inside Israel. These payments to individuals or their families total $300 million a year. (More info about this ca be found at 'Pay to slay' is the true face of the 'peace process' for Israelis and Palestinians (nypost.com New York Post and Pay4Slay_Fact-Sheet-FINAL.pdf (emetonline.org) In addition to this, children in Palestine are brainwashed into hating the Jews from an early age both at school and even on children's TV programmes. (More info on this can be found at AHRC46NGO42_050321.pdf (un.org) Also, the Palestinian government is run by Mahmoud Abbas, who was involved in the 1972 Munich Olympic Massacre.
