Demand Metrolinx Disclose Eglinton Crosstown Opening Date or Resign
The Issue
I, like many residents of the GTA, have been eagerly waiting for the Eglinton Crosstown. This transit project holds promise to connect our communities more efficiently and improve our commutes. However, Metrolinx and the province of Ontario have consistently delayed the opening with no communication about their timeline. As their lack of transparency affects us all, this is no longer just a personal matter; it's a community issue.
This project, promised to be opened by 2020, has faced continuous setbacks. Mismanagement from Metrolinx has seen the project's cost balloon to $12.81 billion, a staggering 80% increase from the originally estimated $6.6 billion (Toronto Star). Now, in 2024, we're still left in the dark, unsure of when this long-awaited improvement to our transportation system will see the light of day.
The CEO of Metrolinx, Phil Verster, holds the responsibility to ensure the smooth operation of this vital project, and the lack of any communication about an opening date suggests a lack of leadership. We believe it's time for accountability and transparency from Metrolinx and its CEO.
Therefore, we demand that Metrolinx announce the opening date for the Eglinton Crosstown. If this is not met, we request the province to make Phil Verster, the CEO of Metrolinx, resign. It's high time we, the residents of Toronto, are treated with the respect and honesty we deserve. Please sign this petition we need your support.
