I am personally triggered by disappointing events that occurred during the Adelaide Crows versus Geelong match in March. A man named Julian, infamously dubbed 'as the adelaide oval pich invader' invaded the pitch and caused havoc, his actions driven by alcohol. As a child of an alcoholic, I am all too familiar with the harmful consequences of such reckless behaviour.

This event goes beyond just one game. It sends a dangerous message that alcohol-induced disruption could be tolerable in our spaces of sports, leisure, and community gathering. It sets a terrible precedent, and it's a reminder of painful memories for people like me, who have experienced the downsides of alcohol up close in our personal lives.

In South Australia alone, approximately one in five citizens aged 14 and older consume alcohol at levels that put them at risk of harm over their lifetime (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2017). This level of prevalent alcohol misuse underscores the gravity of this issue and how lenient handling of such incidents could contribute to a wider social problem.

We, therefore, petition for Julian to face necessary punitive actions for his misconduct during the match, sending a clear message that such behaviour is not tolerated. Through this, we hope not only to deter future similar instances, but also to raise awareness of the deeper societal issue revolving around alcohol misuse.
