Stella W. Kiarie was more than a mentor, she was a guiding light, a source of strength, and a compassionate force who uplifted everyone around her. One month before Stella's death, she emailed me and was talking about carrying on a torch. She was mentoring me and classmates when co-founding the Refugee Education and Clinic Team, also known as REACT in Arizona. 

She was also just two weeks away from adopting her foster child, an adoption she cared about deeply and had been preparing for with love and intention. Stella was the only daughter of her Kenyan parents. She was her mother's best friend. Stella was talking to her mother daily. 

Given these circumstances, many who knew Stella have serious questions about the events surrounding her death. There are reported inconsistencies in the investigation, including concerns about evidence that may not align with what those close to her know of her character and habits.  Stella deserves to be remembered with dignity, and her incredible family and those who cared for Stella and her baby, they deserve clear answers. I respectfully call for a thorough, transparent, and independent review of the investigation into Stella W. Kiarie’s death to ensure that all facts are fully examined and that justice is served. If you are in law enforcement or you investigated her death, did you provide interpretation services to her family to truly understand who Stella really was? 

Stella's passing was not only a personal loss but a glaring reminder of the systemic failures that plague our society. She was a steadfast advocate for justice, equality, and fair treatment for all, often championing the causes of those who didn't have a voice. The irony of her untimely death lying in the very injustices she fought against is both painful and infuriating.

The investigation into Stella's death has been marred by inefficiencies and neglect. Key evidence went uncollected, witnesses were not properly interviewed, and there has been a lack of transparency in the proceedings. These failings are unacceptable and have stalled the journey to uncovering the truth. Stella deserved better in life and continues to deserve better in death.

I urge the authorities to reopen the investigation into Stella's untimely demise with a renewed commitment to thoroughness and impartiality. An independent task force should be formed to review all aspects of the case, ensuring that no stone remains unturned in the quest for justice. Measures must be taken to prevent such oversight and negligence in sensitive investigations moving forward.

Stella's legacy is one of resilience and justice, and it is time we honor her memory by standing for the very principles she embodied. Let us raise our voices collectively to demand that justice be served, not just for Stella, but for the countless others who need a champion.
