Demand Instagram Revise Its Inaccurate Spam Detection Algorithm

Demand Instagram Revise Its Inaccurate Spam Detection Algorithm
The Issue
I am a regular Instagram user, just like millions of others worldwide. Recently, my account was banned for spam, despite me not engaging in any activities that could be considered as such.
This incident is not isolated; it's part of a larger problem with Instagram's spam detection system that inaccurately flags accounts as spamming when they are not. In my case, I was rapidly unfollowing accounts I was no longer interested in. There are numerous examples of other innocent activities being flagging as spam - such as posting a regular comment, making a spelling error, or liking posts quickly.
Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms globally, with over 1 billion active users monthly. It has become an essential tool for communication and expression for many people. However, its current algorithm's flaws have led to numerous unjustified bans on legitimate users' accounts.
The issue lies in the platform's automated systems designed to protect against spam and abuse. While these systems are crucial for maintaining a safe online environment, they must also ensure fairness and accuracy. Currently, this balance is off.
We understand that combating spam is challenging due to the sheer volume of content shared daily on Instagram - around 95 million photos and videos each day according to Omnicore Agency statistics (2019). Nonetheless, it does not justify banning innocent users who rely on this platform for personal or professional purposes.
We urge Instagram to review its current policies and improve its algorithms' accuracy in detecting genuine cases of spamming while minimizing false positives. We believe that by doing so, Instagram will enhance user trust and satisfaction while maintaining a safe online community free from actual spammers.
Please sign this petition if you agree that Instagram should take immediate action to revise their flawed system which unfairly penalizes innocent users under false accusations of spamming.
