Demand Inclusive Prom Policies at Charters School in Ascot for All Students
Demand Inclusive Prom Policies at Charters School in Ascot for All Students
The Issue
I am a mother of a wonderful child with specific needs who attends Charters School in Ascot. My daughter, along with several other children who have special educational needs (SEN) or are dealing with external issues such as social services plans and domestic abuse, has been unjustly excluded from the school prom. This exclusion is not just heartbreaking for us parents but also deeply distressing for these children who deserve to be included.
The current policy at Charters School sets unrealistic targets that many of our children cannot reach due to their unique circumstances. This lack of inclusion and compassion towards these students is unacceptable and goes against the principles of equality and fairness that education should uphold.
According to the Equality Act 2010, it is unlawful for educational providers to treat disabled students less favourably because they are disabled or because something connected with their disability. Yet, this seems to be exactly what's happening at our school.
We demand that Charters School revises its policies regarding school proms starting from 2024 onwards, ensuring all students - regardless of their personal challenges - are allowed to participate in this important social event. We believe every child deserves an equal chance at making beautiful memories during their schooling years.
Please sign this petition if you believe in equal opportunities for all students irrespective of their personal circumstances or disabilities. Let's fight together for a more inclusive future at Charters School!
