The Issue

A disturbing video shared by The Animal Rescue Mission shows officers from Corona Animal Services using catch poles to drag a calm, lost dog across a grassy area—a scene that has left residents and animal advocates heartbroken and outraged.

According to local witnesses, the dog was friendly, sweet, and gentle—even with children. Concerned community members called animal control hoping he would be safely returned to his family. Instead, he was restrained and dragged away by three officers as if he were a threat.

The officers’ use of force wasn’t just unnecessary—it was traumatizing to the dog and to the community who tried to help him.

While the city has stated the officers were responding to a report of aggressive behavior and acted cautiously near a childcare facility, the video paints a very different picture. We understand that public safety is important—but humane handling must never be optional.

This is a wake-up call.

We are calling on the City of Corona and Corona Animal Services to:

  • Launch a full, transparent investigation into the officers’ use of force
  • Temporarily remove the involved officers from field duty during the investigation
  • Require updated training in humane, trauma-informed animal handling techniques
  • Publicly release the shelter’s use-of-force policy and commit to community input

We believe in public safety—but also in kindness, accountability, and compassion for the animals in our care.

This dog may have been safely transported, but trust was not. Sign this petition if you believe animal control officers should protect pets—not frighten or harm them.
