Demand for Eighth Amendment Compliance in South Carolina Prisons

The Issue

My cousin is currently enduring a tough ordeal in South Carolina State Prison (Perry). He has repeatedly been denied proper medical attention, leaving him in dire circumstances. This is not only personal, it's palpably human rights violation.

The Eighth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution prohibits the federal government from imposing cruel and unusual punishments. Deliberate denial of medical treatment to inmates is considered such an infringement. According to Prison Policy Initiative, as of 2021, South Carolina has an incarceration rate higher than any U.S. state, only to addtt further to the urgency of this issue. Failing to provide for the health and wellbeing of those in its care, the South Carolina State Prison system is in violation of Constitutional laws. This petition seeks to motivate the court in South Carolina to increase its attention to and enforcement of the Eighth Amendment, thus ensuring all prisoners receive the necessary medical care they are constitutionally entitled to.

The health of my cousin and fellow inmates is a testament to the prison system's lack of compliance with fundamental human rights. The time is now. The time is urgent. Sign this petition to demand the South Carolina court system uphold the Eighth Amendment to its fullest extent, to ensure that inmates like my cousin receive their rightful medical attention.
