Demand for a Transparent and Expedited Investigation into Disha Salian’s Death

Demand for a Transparent and Expedited Investigation into Disha Salian’s Death
The Issue
Disha Salian was a young, hardworking woman from a middle-class family in Mumbai who made her way to the top of the talent management industry, working with high-profile celebrities in Bollywood. Tragically, she lost her life on the night of June 8, 2020, in a fall from the 14th floor of her boyfriend Rohan Rai’s apartment, where she was reportedly with four friends. The following day, headlines labeled her death a suicide. Just a week later, on June 14, news of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death shocked the country, sparking outrage and raising questions about both cases.
In the wake of these deaths, allegations of mishandling and cover-up by Mumbai Police surfaced, with critics accusing authorities of ignoring standard protocols and failing to investigate murder allegations. Calls for accountability grew louder after statements from union minister Narayan Rane and his son, MLA Nitesh Rane, who claimed they had evidence pointing to foul play and implicated a state minister of then Maharashtra government in the deaths of both Disha and Sushant. While the Sushant Singh Rajput case was eventually taken up by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in August 2020, the Mumbai Police closed Disha Salian's case as an accidental death in February 2022.
A ray of hope emerged in December 2022, when newly-appointed Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis promised a fresh look into Disha’s case, forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT). However, despite the announcement, there has been little progress. The SIT, which includes members from the original investigation, has faced serious allegations of internal corruption and potential leaks to protect those implicated.
It’s been over a year since the SIT was formally set up, and there has been no report on crime scene recreation, no filing of an FIR, and no significant updates. Moreover, Nitesh Rane has alleged that a compromised member of the SIT is obstructing justice. The public has been left in the dark, with growing concerns over the transparency and dedication of the investigation.
We, the citizens of India, demand that the Maharashtra government, Chief Minister, Home Minister, Commissioner of Police, and Director General of Police take immediate action to restore the public's faith in law and order by:
Removing compromised members from the SIT and ensuring an unbiased team.
Expediting the investigation with a transparent, court-monitored, and time-bound approach.
Ensuring a fast-track investigation and public trial to bring justice to Disha Salian and her family.
The truth about Disha Salian’s tragic death must come to light. A thorough and transparent investigation is essential to assure Indian citizens that justice is served, and the rule of law prevails in our country.
Sign this petition to demand a fair, swift, and uncompromised investigation into Disha Salian's death.
