Demand Changes in Bail Laws to Enhance Community Safety

The issue

As a concerned citizen of Victoria, my heart aches witnessing the impact of rising criminality and violence on our already beleaguered community. A massive upsurge in machete and knife crimes, evident in a shocking 24% increase in vehicle thefts within a year (from 18,680 to 23,248 offenses), is creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity. Criminals, strolling around freely with dangerous weapons, threaten the very fabric of our society. Unfortunately, it seems that current bail laws favor the perpetrators more than their victims. The financial struggles of our Victorian people are compelling enough, and the added pain of property loss through break-ins and vehicle theft is a burden too heavy to bear, with these crimes they are taking the victims livelihood with lose of transportation to travel to work and back, lose of income, insurance rising through the roof, stores that are being burglarised and vandalised leaving the victims to pick up the bill for it. These crimes resonate deeply in each of us and this grave issue desires immediate attention and action because enough is enough. We hereby demand policymakers to modify the existing bail laws, making them stringent irrespective of the offender's age and repeat offenders. If a person is old enough to commit such heinous acts, they should be penalised accordingly, you do adult crime and it should be adult time, stripping them of the shelter of lenient laws as just recently a offender was out on x4 bail conditions and it should have not taken that many chances especially for the crimes he was committing.

This petition appeals to your sense of justice and safety, urging you to join us in this battle towards reclaiming our peace of mind and sense of security. Please sign this petition to bring the much-needed change to our bail laws and to restore safety and carefreeness to our community.
