Demand BBMP to Accept Biodegradable and Compostable Bags for Waste Disposal
Demand BBMP to Accept Biodegradable and Compostable Bags for Waste Disposal
The Issue
Despite the approval of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in India, and the acceptance by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) continues to reject the use of certified biodegradable and compostable bags for waste disposal in Bangalore.
This is causing inconveniences to the residents and posing unhygienic conditions for garbage collectors, as wet waste is dumped directly into bins. Cleaning of these bins is rarely done by the authorities, leading them to be a harbour of worms, bacteria and other pathogens.
By allowing the use of certified bags, BBMP will not only improve the living conditions in Bangalore but also encourage eco-friendly waste disposal in line with India's commitment to reduce plastic waste. The intent is not to dodge responsibility of waste segregation at source, but to enhance it by providing an environmentally friendly method of disposing of the segregated wet waste. Stand with us and demand for BBMP to allow the use of certified biodegradable and compostable bags for wet waste disposal. Sign the petition now!
