Demand an Independent Investigation Into Medicaid Cuts Threatening Rural Health Care

The Issue

In towns like Curtis, Nebraska, families are facing the terrifying reality of losing their only hospital. These closures aren’t just accidents of economics—they’re the direct result of decisions made in Washington that prioritized tax cuts over rural lives.

Under the recently passed tax-and-spending bill, Medicaid funding is being slashed, with work requirements and copays added that make it harder—not easier—for struggling Americans to access care. The changes are already forcing critical access hospitals to close or cut back, particularly in rural areas where there are no alternatives.

We need to know the full truth: Who decided rural health care was expendable? And how deep will this damage go?

That’s why we’re demanding an immediate, independent investigation into how these federal Medicaid changes were crafted, who stands to benefit, and what the long-term impact will be on rural communities.

Rural Americans deserve answers—and they deserve health care.

We urge the Government Accountability Office (GAO), the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Inspector General, or a bipartisan congressional committee to open an inquiry now. We cannot allow politics to quietly dismantle the safety net for millions—especially in towns with no other lifeline.

Sign this petition to call for accountability, transparency, and urgent action to protect rural health care before it’s too late.
