Demand Action Against Bullying at Nuriootpa High School

The issue

We are deeply concerned about the escalating bullying incidents at Nuriootpa High School. Our children do not feel safe, and it seems that the situation is only getting worse. The current disciplinary system appears to be inconsistent, with punishments varying based on the student rather than the act committed. This is unacceptable and something needs to change.

There have been numerous instances during break times, where no teacher was present. This has left opportunity to our children, vulnerable and unprotected. We believe that a school should be a safe environment for all students, but currently, this is not the case at Nuriootpa High.

Quote: NHS Bullying Prevention Policy & Plan

Bullying, harassment, discrimination and violence may be based on gender, race, sexuality, culture, religion, disability and care status. Bullying, harassment, discrimination and violence for any reason is not acceptable in South Australian public schools. It will be responded to.

We call upon parents who have experienced similar issues to join us in raising these concerns with school management. It's time for a comprehensive review of how bullying is handled in our school - possibly even considering a new Principal if necessary. Since Nuriootpa High featured on the front page of the Sunday Mail, on 13th June 2023, the situation of bullying, violence and harassment continues to progress and increase.

All students have the right to feel safe, respected and included. Our learning communities are free from bullying and harassment.

We will model behaviours that:

• demonstrate respect

• value diversity

• promote belonging and wellbeing.

We urge everyone who cares about our children's safety and wellbeing to sign this petition. Let's demand better from Nuriootpa High School!
