Demand accountability from the Veterans Alliance, USA!
The Issue
Multiple Reno area residents are calling for the public to stop allowing a group operating under the name Veterans Alliance USA, to publicly fundraise.
Our community is calling for transparency from a group operating under the name Veterans Alliance USA, which has been fundraising across Northern Nevada for the past two and a half years reportedly collecting over $800,000.

I am asking people in Reno and Sparks to look at the evidence for themselves before giving Veterans Alliance USA (VAUSA) another dollar or allowing this organization to fundraise through their businesses.
Here is the timeline:
March 23: Veterans Alliance USA announced: “We bought our first Tiny Home on Wheels for a Veteran!”
May 15: They were promoting a sponsored story describing a campaign to build a “Life-Changing Tiny Home for Local Veteran.”
August 14: Nearly five months after announcing that they had purchased this home for a veteran, VAUSA held a $50-per-ticket fundraising gala and “ribbon cutting” celebrating the “completion of our first tiny home.”
There is one enormous problem:
THE TINY HOME THEY HAVE BEEN RAISING MONEY AROUND THEY ALSO LISTED FOR SALE.
The same recognizable gray-and-white tiny home shown repeatedly in VAUSA’s own posts appears in online advertisements for $25,000. One of the listings identifies the seller as VAUSA. Canyon Sparks has also personally advertised the home for sale.
And the sales advertising says “veteran buyer preferred.”
Think about what that means.
They announced in March that they had bought this home for a veteran.Months later, instead of showing the public the veteran who received the home, the home was being offered to buyers for $25,000.
Meanwhile, they continued using the tiny-home project to promote the organization, solicit support and hold fundraising events.
Why are donors being asked to continue funding a “tiny home for a veteran” while that same tiny home is being offered for sale?
Why did it take nearly five months to hold a “ribbon cutting” for a tiny home they publicly announced they had already purchased in March?
Why hasn’t VAUSA publicly identified a recipient after all this time?
If the home is sold, where does the $25,000 go?
What happens to the money already raised for the tiny-home project?
What happens to the donated furnishings and materials that are being sold with it?
And why should a veteran have to BUY a house that the public was asked to help provide to a veteran?
There is another major issue that deserves scrutiny: this is a Tiny House on Wheels (THOW). Simply possessing a tiny home does not mean a homeless veteran has a legal place to put it and live in it. VAUSA should publicly explain exactly where this home was intended to be placed, what zoning and permitting allow that use, and what permanent housing arrangement was actually secured for its intended recipient.
The public deserves answers before another fundraiser is held.
There is now a petition calling for Veterans Alliance USA to stop fundraising until these concerns are addressed. It already has more than 50 signatures, including an elected local official, and that number continues to grow.
Businesses considering hosting or sponsoring VETERANS ALLIANCE USA events should understand that community members are actively opposing these fundraisers. Protesters and petition supporters intend to make their concerns known and may choose not to patronize businesses that continue supporting the organization after being presented with this evidence.

If an organization raises money in the name of veterans, the public has every right to demand documentation showing which veterans were helped, how much money was raised, where that money went, and what happened to property and goods donated for veterans.
Until Veterans Alliance USA provides those answers, I will oppose their fundraising and encourage others to examine the evidence before donating.
