Demand accountability from Canadian airlines for poor service and exploitation

The Issue

As a Canadian citizen, I am appalled that our government allows airlines like WestJet and other Canadian carriers to exploit their near-monopoly status, offering subpar service and inadequate facilities that do not match global standards. We are often left with no alternative options, facing exorbitant fees, senseless add-ons, and unsafe seat configurations. In many cases, our investments toward air travel yield disappointing returns, not only exhausting our financial resources but also our trust in these companies.

The situation for Canadian travelers is dire. Our flights are frequently delayed or canceled without reasonable compensations. The safety measures are questionable, and comfort is compromised, with cramped and poorly laid-out seating. Many of us feel trapped by the limited choices, forced to accept whatever scant offerings these companies provide.

Comparing our experience with international travelers shows a glaring disparity. While other countries enjoy efficient, reliable, and more passenger-friendly services, we seem stuck in a cycle of mediocrity that doesn’t improve over time. For example, the European Union has enacted regulations ensuring passenger rights in cases of delays and cancellations, demonstrating that change is possible and beneficial for individuals.

We can't let this exploitation continue. We must look to successful frameworks around the world that prioritize customer rights and safety. We urge the Canadian government to implement stricter aviation oversight and impose regulations that drive competition and elevate service standards. Only through collective action can we hold these airlines accountable and demand the service quality we deserve.

Sign this petition to call upon our elected officials to enact a more equitable and competitive airline environment, ensuring Canadians receive services that reflect the high standards seen globally. Our voices together can make a change, if only we make them heard.
