As LGBTQ+ and ally residents of Broadview Heights, OH, we are outraged by the inflammatory and threatening language used by council member Glenn Goodwin during his recent discussions about Pride Fest 2024. His comment invoking the Proud Boys resulted in our community feeling exceedingly unsafe and put us at risk for the Pride event. "I would fear for the safety of the Pride people if the Proud Boys were to come," Goodwin said. "And the Proud Boys should be entitled to that same venue (the amphitheater) also." This type of rhetoric not only disrespects the dignity of LGBTQ individuals that live in the community, but also has the potential to incite violence from groups that would wish us harm. A council member has a duty to protect all residents, not alienate or endanger them with harmful language. It's crucial that our community leaders uphold values of respect and inclusion.  We are asking that Mr. Goodwin issue a public apology for his statements and attend sensitivity training on the topics of LGBTQ+ issues so that he might gain knowledge and understanding of how to better serve his LGBTQ+ residents and their allies.  We are also asking that Broadview Heights City Council hold Mr. Goodwin accountable for his words.  Sign this petition to demand accountability for our city councilmember Glenn Goodwin and ensure our city remains a safe place for everyone!
