The Issue

I lost my cat Midget to a routine surgery, but his legacy will protect every pet. I have launched a legal campaign for Midget's Law of Protocol. Read the full 14-point reform platform, learn his story, and sign our petition here: https://beacons.ai/behind_the_stone_wall

He was my early morning hello and the last thought on my mind. A tiny golden nugget found in my front yard, now buried treasure in my backyard. I'll never forget that day he walked into my heart, now he's safe in my soul. I started this petition because I lost my soul kitty on that cold February morning. My sweet boy was terrified of his own shadow, so I became his protector until he was taken in the back for a neuter surgery and I wasn't there to shield him. Every pet is at risk under current laws that fail to protect them. My sweet boy, M•i•d•g•e•t, tragically lost his life during what should have been a routine pre-neuter procedure. I am still trying to put the pieces together, with very little information. No pre-opt vital signs, no vet signature/initials, plus other mistakes written on his medical summary. I am being told that what I have is his complete medical records, yet the Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners completely closed his case with no explanation as to why.

To make matters worse, this current state veterinary board—which we indirectly fund through our vet bills—is run by local vets who use their unchecked power to secretly dismiss clear malpractice cases and protect their friends. They treat our pets like property and sweep our pain under the rug. M.i.d.g.e.t’s Law of Protocol changes this permanently: it strips the board of its dismissal authority and shifts case reviews to an independent panel made up of 50% out-of-state neutral experts. Best of all, it is funded entirely by diverting existing licensing fees, meaning it fires the freeloaders and protects our families at zero cost to taxpayers.

He is my motivation for being here, and my goal is to ensure that no other animal or pet parent ever has to suffer through this devastating heartbreak that I am enduring. His is not a single rare case. Lately I've realized it happens far more frequently than people imagine. And the sad part is, although to us, they are part of our family, but to the legal system, they are considered no more than a piece of property, only worth their market value or replacement cost.

 This must change!!!

This is why we all must unite and demand strict accountability and better care standards in veterinary medicine.

Our Demands for M•i•d•g•e•t’s Law: To safeguard our companions and support pet parents everywhere, we are calling for the passage of enforceable state legislation to mandate higher medical care standards across all veterinary clinics:

* Mandatory Pre-Surgical Safety Screenings: Clinics must perform and document comprehensive pre-operative bloodwork and full checks to ensure an animal Is healthy before sedation, as I've noticed, claims are always due to underlying health issues without proof from the clinics.

* Continuous Vital Monitoring: Mandating strict, uninterrupted tracking of a pet's oxygen levels, heart rate, and temperature from the moment sedation begins until they are completely awake in recovery.

* Total Transparency for Owners: Clinics must provide complete, unedited medical, surgical, and anesthesia logs and medical work-up, to the pet parent within 48 hours if an unexpected tragedy occurs.

This campaign is strictly about saving lives, improving veterinary practices, and ensuring pet safety always comes first. Our pets cannot speak for themselves, so we must stand up together to protect them when we can't be there with them.

Please sign to honor my soul kitty's memory and all those lost but not forgotten, to ensure all other animals get the care they need and deserve.

             KEY CONCERNS & GOALS

* BOARD REFORM: The campaign highlights issues with current state veterinary boards—noting concerns over closed cases and dismissals without explanation—and   proposes shifting case reviews to an independent panel comprising 50%   out-of-state neutral experts, funded by diverting existing licensing fees.

* LEGAL STATUS OF PETS: It addresses the limitation within the current legal   system where pets are often classified as property rather than family .

FOUR PRINCIPAL DEMANDS FOR M•I•D•G•E•T’S LAW

1. UNIVERSAL HEALTH FLAGS: A centralized database ensuring a patient's name instantly triggers a critical alert across all veterinary networks, regardless of location, to transmit vital medical histories and life-threatening drug allergies during emergency cross-facility care.

2. STANDARDIZED PRE-SURGICAL SCREENINGS: Mandatory comprehensive diagnostic checks, bloodwork, and vital-sign documentation prior to the administration of any sedative, anesthesia, or surgical procedure.

3. CONTINUOUS INTRAOPERATIVE MONITORING: Enforceable, uninterrupted tracking of patient vital signs—including oxygen levels, heart rate, and temperature—from the onset of sedation through complete post-operative recovery.

4. DATA TRANSPARENCY FOR OWNERS: Requiring veterinary facilities to provide complete, unedited medical, surgical, and anesthesia logs to the owner within a standardized 48-hour window in the event of an unexpected adverse outcome.
