Demand accountability and better practices in veterinary medicine
The Issue
Losing a beloved pet during what should be a routine procedure is a heartbreaking experience. My cat, Midget, was taken from me during a simple pre-procedure sedation for a neuter operation. What transpired was a devastating and preventable tragedy: lethal cardiac and pulmonary arrest immediately following the administration of pre-medication.
This tragedy was compounded by a series of alarming oversights in veterinary practice that need urgent correction.
Firstly, Midget's medical records show critical documentation gaps: there were no baseline pre-operative vital signs recorded, which is essential to assess the animal’s readiness and overall health status before a procedure. Alarmingly, there was also no documented veterinarian clearance or sign-off on the specific sedation protocol used, and no written informed-consent risk discussion. This lack of professional diligence denied me the opportunity to make fully informed decisions about my pet's health and safety.
Midget's story may be a singular tragedy, but it reflects a broader systemic issue within veterinary practice which, if unaddressed, could impact many other pets and their families. It's an issue that demands immediate attention.
Therefore, we are calling for the following changes in veterinary regulations:
1. Mandatory recording of baseline pre-operative vital signs for any procedure that requires sedation.
2. Written and signed veterinarian clearance on sedation protocols before administration, ensuring protocols are tailored to the individual health needs of each animal.
3. Implementation of comprehensive informed-consent forms that explicitly outline the risks associated with sedation and procedures, ensuring pet owners are fully aware before any medical action is taken.
Midgets Law Of Protocol consists of 14 different laws that will help protect our fur kids during simple routine procedures . We demand accountability from veterinary clinics and regulatory agencies to uphold the highest standards of pet care and transparency.
By signing this petition, you are supporting a move toward safer, more accountable, and transparent veterinary practices that could save countless beloved pets from preventable harm. Together, we can push for changes that assure every pet receives the highest standard of care and safeguards that respect not just their lives, but the profound bond they share with their families.
