Demand a Review of Discriminatory Insurance Premium Tax, and Public Transport
The Issue
This petition stems from personal struggle. As a prospective worker seeking opportunities and widening horizons, I find myself stymied by the numerous obstacles presented by inadequate, overpriced public transport and sky-high insurance premiums. The ambition to work is strong among young individuals, but it seems like we are constantly facing hurdles set up by our own country. Inflating bus fares and stratospheric insurance premiums make it difficult for us to commute or even drive.
Yet, this is not simply about struggles faced by individuals. It's about a major societal issue: the young and less experienced drivers are being unwittingly excluded from participating in our economy due to prohibitive insurance premium taxes. This seems to be a discrimination against youth and economic inexperience, effectively sabotaging the already frail economy. If premiums are high, then tax as a percentage is going to be equally - and unfairly - as high.
These young workers are the backbone of an economy, and pricing them out of affordable transport options reduces their participation in the job market. Furthermore, the excessive premiums of insurance companies further contribute to this widening socioeconomic gap.
Moreover, rises in costs due to public sector strikes have unjustifiably driven prices up for the rest of us. We need the government and insurance companies to recognise this disparity and rectify it.
The time is ripe to question the unfair insurance premium taxation system. Let our voices be heard as we call upon our government to review and reform the tax policies regarding insurance premiums. Sign this petition to support the case for a fairer insurance tax system.
We need to create opportunities within our economy, we need to make these opportunities as accessible as possible for everyone.
