The Issue

The cost of living is rising exponentially, and our location has sadly become one of the most expensive places to live in without offering the advantages or care found in other communities of the same caliber. This has become a personal plea, as many of us living here are struggling to make ends meet due to incessant rental hikes that show no signs of slowing down.

Continual increments in rental rates are imposing undue financial burden on residents. People are being forced out of their homes, not because they don’t love where they live, but because they simply cannot afford the spiraling costs. It’s unfair that we should live in fear of the next rent increase, uncertain of whether we’ll be able to continue living in our homes.

Current statistics paint a dire picture. For instance, according to housing data, rental prices in our area have seen an annual increase of over 10% for the past three years without any corresponding increase in amenities or quality of living. Meanwhile, wages have remained nearly stagnant, failing to keep up with this inflationary pressure. This mismatch is causing residents to choose between basic necessities and housing stability.

The solution is clear and pressing: implement a cap on rental rates and cease all annual increases. By doing this, not only will it provide relief to thousands of residents, but it will restore a sense of security and stability within our community. We deserve to be treated with dignity and not as mere dollar signs.

To our local housing authorities, it’s time to stand for the people you represent. We urge you to consider the financial strife that unrestricted rental increases are causing. By enacting a freeze on these increments, you’ll be taking a significant step toward rebuilding community trust and well-being.

Sign this petition to demand a more equitable and compassionate approach to rental policies. Together, we can make a difference and foster a livable community where everyone can thrive.
