As an English citizen, I have always admired the pride and honor with which our fellow countries in the Union, Scotland and Wales, celebrate their patron Saints' Day. Around the world, countries commemorate their history and culture through such celebrations. It's time for England to do the same.

St. George is not just a figure from legend; he is an emblem of our nation's rich history and enduring spirit. The English flag with its cross of St. George should be more than a symbol; it should be a beacon of celebration and pride that unites us all.

Yet, despite this significance, we do not currently recognize St. George's Day as a national public holiday on April 23rd each year - unlike many other nations who honor their patron saints in this way.

By declaring April 23rd as a national public holiday in celebration of St.George’s day would allow us to join our fellow nations in celebrating our unique heritage with dignity and respect it deserves.

This petition calls on the government to acknowledge the importance of this day by making it a national public holiday – allowing all citizens to celebrate England’s proud history together.
