With the new Dead By Daylight update today, of 1/27/2026, version 9.4.0, Dead By Daylight has brought in new characters from the Stranger Things franchise. Along with adding new characters and voice lines, they have (for some reason) altered our baby boy Steve Harrington's voice, specifically his scream. 

If you're a true Dead By Daylight player, you'd know how Iconic his screeches are. You may love, or may hate them, but you should remember how it's been around since his release back in 2019.

Steve had remained untouched for 6 YEARS, 4 months, and 10 days as of today! Why did he need a change now?

Steve's iconic scream (screech) has added humor in so many games, for years now. It's even brought our beloved no0b3 out of his long-term disappearance! There are countless of other youtubers who also find humor and enjoyment from this small thing.

The players that choose to play Steve now, even after half a decade, usually choose him due to his uniqueness, the humor, and enjoyment from how unserious he is. 

Without Steve being Steve, who even is he?

He's simply just another boring, average, unenjoyable survivor to choose from now.

Steve Harrington's scream is just so iconic, I can't mention that enough. The fact that the community is required to create a petition, and even cause the DBD discord server to have a higher slow mode duration upon realizing his scream was gone, should speak volumes. 

There was absolutely no reason to remove his scream. As it didn't affect gameplay directly, cause any harm, bugs, or damage. Nor did it apply any advantage or disadvantage, as being paired with scene partner (it's usual usage to becoming steagull) provided the same features to Steve as it did for other characters, factually. 

As someone who has based their entire Twitch and YouTube off of Steve (Steagull), this is a traumatic loss.


BHVR, please fix this and give our baby boy back.
