Pass a Bill for cyber-bullying to be an illegal offence.
The Issue
If you punch someone you are arrested.
If you attack someone you are arrested.
If you damage someone's property you are arrested.
If you publically ridicule them, tear them down, insult them, take pictures of them to mock and pictures of their children to hurt them and cause them unspeakable pain and anxiety online you have no repercussions.
Just take that in a moment.
Cyber bullying is an area that is so very rarely discussed in regards to adults and more shockingly appears to be completely legal in the UK at the present time that can result in people self harming and even suicide. People roll their eyes and presume that it only involves children, but this couldn't be further from the truth.
With the coming of social media like Facebook cyber bullying has become more and more common and the platform is far easier to access. Katie Hopkins is a prime example of a cyber bully, however there are some that are far worse than her and more dangerous as they are usually on a far more personal level.
At the moment there is one group on Facebook that goes to extreme lengths to bully and ridicule other adults when they are most vulnerable. They have been reported to Facebook and Facebook deems them acceptable. They have been reported to the police and the police say there is nothing they can do. This group finds people using support groups, takes pictures of their posts and uses them to tear apart a person, often go so far as to post pictures of a persons children, insult their parenting, take pictures of the person to make "memes", encouraging people to give someone abuse. They have ridiculed people who have mental health issues, posted pictures of people's self harming scars under the guise of a "debate", and attack people who think they may be pregnant throwing vile insults calling them numerous obese related names. Already this group has caused one suicide attempt we know of and many people having a breakdown. How long will cyber bullying like this be legally allowed to continue? Until a child loses their mother to suicide? A wife? A husband? A sister?
People focus so much on the cyber bullying of children and deaths they cause, but still the fact it happens to adults is overlooked. We NEED protection to know that we can be protected from these people. That they will be held accountable for their despicable actions. That when they attack someone with mental health issues something can be done about it. These people never look at how vulnerable a person they attack is, they never look at whether there mental health is the reason, nor do they care. These types of bullying groups and people that target others have to be addressed and stopped.
So I implore people to sign this petition and lets see something finally done about it.
