Tougher UK sentencing laws for animal abusers

The Issue

This petition calls David Cameron to review the sentencing laws in the animal welfare act (2006). Sentencing laws in the UK for extreme cases animal abuse are extremely soft. If a person was torturing another human or caused another human to lose their life, sentencing would be severe. Why should animal abusers get off so lightly? Some recent examples in the media include; The Frankish brothers (2016), Sheridan Greer (2015), the gang that kidnapped and tortured Chunky the puppy (2015) and the drunken man who stabbed cat nine times! (2014) On www.gov.co.uk it is stated that “You must provide proper care to any animal you keep as a pet. You may get an unlimited fine or be sent to prison for up to 6 months if you don’t look after an animal properly. You may also be banned from owning animals in future.” If you agree that this is not enough then please sign this petition and bring justice to the victims of this abuse. It needs to be taken more seriously to deter people from committing these crimes. Animals being kept as pets are dependent on humans for their care. Pet owners who diminish these responsibilities should be aware of the serious impact of their negligence. Individuals who cause harm to animals intentionally should not get away with it, being let off with possibility of causing harm to more animals in the future. Why should our moral values of killing be so dramatically less when it comes to animals, who have just as much right to be here as we do? Animals experience fear and pain just as we do. Their lives and well-being should be worth far more than a small fine or short suspended sentence. Severe cases of animal abuse should be taken seriously!
