Stand up to racism: Suspend Boris Johnson
The Issue
Last week, Brexiteer Boris Johnson declared in a column for The Sun that 'part-Kenyan' Obama's decision to urge Britain to remain in the EU might have been caused by an 'ancestral dislike' for Britain. This type of dog-whistle racism, also widely deployed in the Islamophobic Tory campaign against Sadiq Khan and in David Cameron's depiction of a 'swarm' of refugees, is emblematic of the toxic culture prevalent amongst senior members of the Conservative Party.
Whilst allegations of rampant racism amongst the left are hitting national headlines, the lack of scrutiny applied to similar instances on the right is disturbing and indicative of a wider issue of the use of racism and xenophobia as a political football by the Tories and right-wing media outlets.
There is no hierarchy of racism and such attitudes and comments have no place within our society. In our stand against racism, anti-semitism, and fascism we should hold all equally to account. Sign to call Boris Johnson to account.
