Many mentally ill people may face the decision of being able to afford their monthly prescriptions or being able to afford food. Seeing as mental health problems are just as, and if not more serious than some physical health problems, something needs to change! People get weight loss surgery for free on the NHS, yet thousands of people are having to pay for their prescriptions for their medications to stabilise or recover from their mental health problems. Not being able to pay for prescriptions either due to a lack of funding or changes in circumstances means that they are more than likely to deteriorate. Suicide rates are on the increase and with more than 6223 people taking their lives in 2013, it is clear that something needs to be done. Everybody deserves to be happy. Everybody deserves help and that shouldn't be dependent on your income. Just because you earn a little more than other people it doesn't automatically mean that you can afford to pay out extortionate prices for prescriptions each month, especially if you're on more than one medication.
