Help end the rise of Fake Assistance dog Charities/ businesses

The Issue

As a disabled Woman and a Wheelchair user I rely on my Assistance dog for helping me with day to day tasks such as getting in/out of bed, undressing, retrieving items of clothing and dropped articles. Helping at the ATM machine, helping me retrieve items from low shelves in supermarkets, opening/closing doors etc. My dog has also been trained to activate my Emergency care alarm and to seek help if I fall ill, which has happened twice in the last month. On one occassion I was admitted to hospital for 2 weeks, Thanks to my Dog I'm here today. The reason I started this petition is to raise awareness of both individuals and businesses and some newly registered charities who are advertising trained Assistance dogs for various medical conditions such as Seziure, Diabetes alert dogs. They are also claiming that their dogs have been trained to support Autistic and Down syndrome children. In the United Kingdom there are seven recognised Chartites who train assistance dogs they are : Guide Dogs, Hearing Dogs for Deaf people, Dogs for Good ( previously known as Dogs for the Disabled) Canine Partners for Independence, Dog AID, Support Dogs and Medical Detection Dogs. These Charities are under the umbrella of ADUK ( Assistance Dogs United Kingdom ) All these charities train their dogs to a high standard and this is a long process. Each Charity relies heavily on public donations to continue their vital work, they often have long waiting lists from the time an application has been accepted to matching the disabled person / child with a suitable dog can be 2 years. There are a lot of disabled people/ families of disabled children who for whatever reason can't or don't wish to wait this length of time. As a result there has been a sharp rise in " so called Assistance Dog Organisations " who are preying on the vulnerability of these Disabled people. These organisations claim to have highly trained Assistance dogs who can also alert their owners to impending Seziures, alert diabetic owners to impending Hyop/Hyperglyceamic attacks . In desperation people are paying Tousands of pounds for dogs that are little more than pet dogs, they would be fine as a companion dog but are not Trained assistance dogs. These businesses are only interested in making as much money as they can, they have no consideration for the safety of the disabled person/ Child, and it is only a matter of time before a vulnerable adult/ child dies as a result of these untrained dogs. The Law needs to be made water tight where Assiatance Dogs are concerned. Please help protect the Lives of Vunerable adults and Children from the businesses/ organisations that provided unregistered Assistance dogs, please sign the petition so that we can Lobby parliament for a change in the Law regarding Assistance Dogs. If you know a Disabled person or child who's life could be enhanced by being partnered with an Assistance dog please direct them to one of the seven Recognised / Registered Assistance Dog Charities.
