Safer roads for kids around Preston Primary School

The issue

750 primary school kids, and 100s of other local children, use the streets around Preston Primary School everyday. While signed as 40km zones, many cars don't observe that limit, and regularly 'hoon' down local streets, most commonly Foch and Ellison Streets and Shakespeare Avenue. There are no speed bumps on these streets, no pedestrian crossing, and no stop signs.

Local residents have been individually asking Darebin council to assess the safety of the area, and consider putting in speed bumps, stop signs and a pedestrian crossing on Shakespeare Avenue for years, without any action from council.

Children are routinely put in danger by this lack of safe roads, and before this results in an avoidable tragedy, we urge Darebin Council to take action and make our local streets safe! Please join us in calling on Council to act now!
