Irish government need to take a stand against oppression & racism at home & abroad

The Issue

A call for the Irish government to take a meaningful stand against police violence and institutionalized racism which has reached boiling point in America. The Irish government need to;

  1. Impose trade restrictions on imports & exports with America until such time as there has been real reform of police training and practices.
  2. Ban American military forces from using Irish airports as staging posts for international wars.
  3. Be a leading example for the World by not tolerating institutionalized racism and casual racism at home or abroad.

In 1984 10 Dunnes stores workers went on strike refusing to sell South African goods due to Apartheid, the strike grew and lasted until April 1987 when the Irish government became the first western government to place a complete ban on South African imports.

It is time for the Irish to once again stand against a bigger nation and tell them that their abuse of people of colour will not be tolerated. Many of the perpetrators of the abuse and violence claim Irish heritage. We should be ashamed that our distant cousins forced to immigrate by famine and colonial oppression have lost their empathy for people fighting for what we fought so long.

We must take a stand to show our children that racism in any form subtle or blatant has no place in the 21st century.
