CUT FUEL DUTY AND VAT

The Issue

We, the undersigned, call on the UK Government to take immediate action to reduce the financial burden on citizens by cutting fuel duty and lowering VAT on fuel.

The cost of fuel continues to place significant strain on working families, small businesses, and essential services. High fuel prices drive up the cost of living, increasing prices across transport, food, and goods, while wages struggle to keep pace. For many, this is not a matter of convenience but necessity—fuel is essential for commuting to work, running businesses, and maintaining daily life.

The Government has repeatedly acknowledged the pressures facing ordinary people. It is now time to act decisively. Cutting fuel duty and reducing VAT on fuel(which equates to over 50% of the price we pay for fuel) would provide immediate and meaningful relief, helping to stabilise household budgets and support economic activity across the country.

We urge Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his Government to honour their commitments to easing the cost-of-living crisis and to put forward concrete measures that reflect those promises.

Specifically, we call for:

A reduction in fuel duty to lower pump prices immediately
A temporary cut in VAT on fuel to further ease costs
A clear long-term strategy to ensure fuel affordability and energy stability

This is a practical, targeted step that would benefit millions across the UK. The Government must act now to support the people it serves.

Sign this petition to demand fairer fuel prices and real action on the cost of living.
