Curb Vulgarity and Violence Against Women in Films and Media

Curb Vulgarity and Violence Against Women in Films and Media
The Issue
This cause is deeply personal to me, as I have witnessed the lasting impact that the portrayal of women in media can wield on young impressionable minds. Young boys, watching acts of vulgarity, violence, and sexual exploitation in films, may internalize dangerous narratives that perpetuate harm against girls and women.
Saving our nation and preserving our culture begins with safeguarding our traditional values, beliefs, and practices. A significant aspect of our culture is our media, and particularly, the portrayal of women in our films. Harmful representation of women, particularly those that are vulgar or demeaning, not only reinforce detrimental stereotypes, but also contribute to a societal norm that tolerates, and even promotes, violence against women.
A study from the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media highlights that in the top-grossing domestic films of 2019, 37.1% of female characters are shown in sexually revealing clothing, as opposed to 7.6% of males, and over 35% of characters in films are shown involved in acts of violence. This needs to change. Our media can and should play a stronger role in promoting respect, equality and non-violence.
By signing this petition, we urge film and media creators to bear the responsibility of their influence and act against vulgarity and violence towards women in their content. For too long, the dignity of female characters has been compromised for the sake of entertainment; damaging societal norms and endangering the safety of real women in the process. Society is ever-evolving and our media should reflect these progressive changes by rendering characters that empower women and treat them with respect they inherently deserve.
Change starts with us. Sign the petition, let's reshape the way media portrays women, and safeguard not only the dignity of our women but also the future of our culture and nation.
