I wouldn't mind these amber alerts so much if they actually stopped real criminals. Honestly the most annoying part is that most of these seem to be people with some kind of marital problem.

Take Jaffri for example. He picked up his kid from school as he often does. His wife went to the police, made up a court order that restricted his custody, and had the police issue an amber alert. The child was later found safe. Jaffri was released at a later time in the day. NO ONE was charged. Not even the wife. As a preface, the Breana Gooden alert certainly had some merit. The boy and his mom Breana were dropped off at the Rainbow Mall in Sudbury and were found all the way in downtown Toronto. That being said, the police didn't mention if she was charged. The worst one by far though was the Riya alert. Riya was supposed to be returned to her mother by her father at about 6:30pm. When she wasn't returned, her mother called the police. An amber alert was issued at 11:30pm. She was found dead at approximately 12:00am. The police say the system "worked" but I call this a catastrophic failure. This system isn't working well. While its true the kids are found a majority of the time, most of these guys aren't getting charged. The kids aren't even in actual danger. Most don't even have ill intentions, and when they do so with malice, its too late.

And that’s just some of the amber alerts we’ve had in 2019. 

Today, ( Jan 12, 2020) many were greeted this morning with an emergency broadcast pertaining to the Pickering Nuclear Generating System.  The alert only specified an incident had occurred and that normal levels of radiation were being emitted. Residents were also advised to tune in to local media for further instructions and information. 

As most of us know now, this was completely FALSE. It took TWO HOURS to send out another alert retracting the first alert. Sending broad ominous messages pertaining to something as important as a NUCLEAR GENERATING SYSTEM and taking that long to retract is vehemently irresponsible and unacceptable. 

We were promised by Patrick Tanguy that:

We have lost all faith in the emergency broadcast system. We as Canadians weren’t given a choice to opt-out because a few bureaucrats decided they knew better. We were assured our lives would be at risk when receiving these unstoppable alerts. This has become nothing more than a tool used by police to offset their work to the public. 

Section 7 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms state that: Everyone has the right to life, LIBERTY and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice.

We have a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to opt-out of these. 

WE THE UNDERSIGNED THEREFORE DEMAND THE CRTC IMMEDIATELY ALLOW WIRELESS SERVICE PROVIDERS TO IMPLEMENT THE OPT OUT SYSTEM THEY WERE ORIGINALLY IN FAVOUR OF.
