Private accommodation final rent instalment to be waivered

Private accommodation final rent instalment to be waivered
The Issue
CRM students provide accommodation to students residing in Canterbury, Kent.
In these unprecedented times it has been the advise of university's and student unions to waiver the final rent instalment. However, CRM and landlords have ignored this advise and are still expecting to collect upwards of £1,750 from each tenant, despite most of them not being there.
Most students residing in these halls are heavily supported by parents and careers, alongside supporting themselves in part-time jobs . With this in mind, money is scarce for many families and students after losing their jobs, and taking pay-cuts.This is especially the case for all students I have been in contact with.
Likewise, guarantors are also finding themselves in tight situations with money, and will not be able to afford to foot the bill.
Following Government and University advise, most students have cleared halls and gone home to their permanent residents to isolate with family. In these times of uncertainty people simply cannot afford to pay obscene amounts for a service we are not using.
It would be extremely immoral and unjust to expect students to pay this, knowing that people are struggling financially.
People are struggling, please listen.
