Create Permanent Peace for Palestinians & Israelis
The Issue
We, the undersigned people of the world, each an equal member of the human family, call upon the United Nations to once and for all bring about an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This cycle of violence has gone on for far too long and has resulted in far too much suffering among our fellow humans. Moreover, the latest outbreak of war in the area risks spreading beyond Israel and Gaza, creating perilous conditions for even more people worldwide.
Israelis and Palestinians are human beings and as such deserve nothing short of peace, prosperity, security, and sovereignty. We demand that the leaders of the United Nations member states work together, swiftly and diligently, for as long as it takes, to create and sustain a lasting and just peace for Israelis and Palestinians alike.
This resolution must include the following:
- Disarm and dismantle Hamas: Hamas' egregious attack against innocent Israelis on October 7 only further solidifies their status as a terrorist organization. Likewise, Hamas' rule of Palestinians in Gaza since 2006 has been oppressive, corrupt, and authoritarian. There can only be a lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians if Hamas is permanently removed from the equation. Unfortunately, the Israeli government's unilateral approach to eliminating Hamas has created catastrophe for millions of Palestinians. We urge the UN to establish the United Nations Israeli-Palestinian Peace Force (UNIPPF), led by a coalition of mutually trusted Arab state leaders, to oversee and lead a multilateral effort to disarm and dismantle Hamas while protecting Palestinians and ensuring sufficient humanitarian aide can be provided to them as a necessary step toward the beginning of the end of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
- Create a Palestinian state and ensure Israel's right to exist: Just as Israel has a right to exist, so does Palestine. The establishment of a democratic Palestinian state that unifies Gaza and the West Bank is crucial for ensuring both a just peace for all Palestinians and lasting security for the state of Israel. Displaced Palestinians must also be provided the right to return to this newly formed Palestinian state. We urge the UN to support this endeavor by facilitating and overseeing the creation of truly free and fair elections, in partnership with international election observation organizations, with the UNIPPF providing security before, during, and after said elections to ensure stability and protect against attempts to interfere with, obstruct, or otherwise undermine or overthrow the election process or a democratically-elected government. Additionally, in order to qualify for running in these elections, candidates and their political parties must explicitly affirm Israel's right to exist.
- Reparations for Palestinians: This decades-long conflict has caused unimaginable suffering, especially for Palestinians, both in terms of lives lost but also lives totally and unjustly derailed due to Israeli government policies. Commensurate reparations must be provided to course correct the livelihoods of all Palestinians who have thus far survived this conflict and to accelerate the development of the new Palestinian state. These reparations must be provided by UN member states who have contributed, directly or indirectly, to this conflict and the suffering it has caused, primarily Israel, Iran, Qatar, and the United States.
- Creation of The Abrahamic Commons: Religious sites considered sacred and oft visited by Muslims and Jews living in the region have been a long running source of tension resulting in violence. To ensure a lasting peace in Israel and Palestine, and in order to guarantee free movement throughout these sacred sites, we urge the United Nations to adopt them as extrajudicial territories governed by the UN in partnership with Israel and Palestine. The UNIPPF should provide security to ensure equitable protection of all people visiting these sites. The significance of these sacred sites to followers of all Abrahamic religions, in the region and worldwide, supersedes any single nation's claim to control all or part of them. They must be treated as a true commons if there is to be a lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
