Create more parking spaces in Grand Concourse

The Issue

More construction and less parking !

Concrete for building

As a dedicated nurse in the Grand Concourse area, I often find myself circling for over an hour and a half just trying to find a place to park. My job is demanding, with long shifts and crucial responsibilities, and wasting valuable time searching for parking only adds unnecessary stress to an already challenging profession. This experience is all too common for many residents, employees, and visitors in our community.

Grand Concourse has seen a surge in new building developments, which is a positive sign of growth. However, this growth has not been matched with sufficient parking options. Many existing parking spaces have been repurposed for City Bike stations or other purposes, further limiting available spots. The shortage is alarming, pushing residents to park in precarious areas, including the middle of intersections, just to accommodate their vehicles.

One such affected area is the intersection at Grand Concourse, currently designated as a "no standing anytime" zone. The city has the opportunity to rethink and repurpose this space to better serve the community. Designating specific hours, such as from 7 PM to 6 AM, for parking in this intersection could alleviate much of the stress faced by residents and workers alike. Moreover, there are plans to install concrete walls to plant trees, which, though beneficial to the environment, could be an opportunity to reconsider spaces for parking solutions that preserve green space while addressing practical needs.

Statistics reveal that parking availability significantly affects the daily lives of city residents, contributing to increased traffic and pollution from cars idling as they search for spaces. Implementing smart parking solutions, like timed zones and multi-use spaces, can substantially improve urban living conditions.

I call on the city planners and local government to address this critical issue by expanding parking facilities and reconsidering current restrictions. Let's work towards a Grand Concourse where residents, workers, and visitors can thrive without the constant concern for finding a parking spot.

Join me in addressing this pressing issue before it escalates further. Sign this petition to support the transformation of parking spaces in Grand Concourse and improve the daily lives of those who live and work here. Together, we can make a significant impact.
