The Issue

I’m writing to shed light on a struggle that is close to my heart, one that resonates with countless parents and caregivers of children on the Autism Spectrum. As someone who has navigated this journey both as a parent and from inside the employer's office, I understand the intricate dance of managing special needs appointments, school meetings, medical care, and unexpected situations. These demands often conflict with traditional work schedules, leaving parents with an unfair choice between being there for their child or meeting employment responsibilities.

This feeling is all too familiar for millions, yet it goes largely unaddressed in today's workplace culture. It's time for a change, one that acknowledges the unique needs of families like ours while being considerate of employer perspectives. This is why the "Be Ausome" initiative has come to life. Our goal is to advocate for comprehensive flexibility in work policies for parents and caregivers of children on the Autism Spectrum.

No parent should have to choose between their child's wellbeing and their job security. Current workplace norms are outdated, failing to embrace diversity and inclusivity in how they support working parents. By implementing policies such as remote work options, flexible hours, job sharing, and increased family leave, employers would empower caregivers while fostering a compassionate and productive work environment.

Research from reputable sources such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that 1 in 54 children in the United States is diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This statistic translates into millions of families dealing with similar challenges. Progressive employers have found that by adopting flexible work arrangements, they not only improve employee satisfaction and productivity but also decrease turnover rates and attract a more diverse workforce.

"Be Ausome" is not just a movement; it's a call to action. We urge employers to lead with empathy and adaptability, paving the way for a more equitable future. By reimagining work structures, not only do we validate the experiences of those caring for autistic children, but we also reinforce our commitment to family values and community well-being.

Please join us in pushing for change by signing this petition. Together, we can "Be Ausome," supporting those who nurture future generations with understanding and respect.
