For years, I have walked the streets of the Church and Wellesley neighbourhood, a vibrant and vital heart of Toronto's LGBTQ community. Here, I have witnessed profound stories of courage, resilience, and love from individuals who have made significant contributions to our society. I feel strongly that it is time we honour these trailblazers and acknowledge their impact with a permanent Walk of Fame.

Toronto has always been a beacon of acceptance and progress, yet it lacks a dedicated space to celebrate the accomplishments of its LGBTQ pioneers. These individuals have worked tirelessly for equality, brought visibility to our community, and have paved the way for future generations. They deserve recognition, not only in our memories but etched into the fabric of our city.

A Walk of Fame would serve as a cultural landmark, providing education and inspiration to locals and tourists alike. It would celebrate not only the famous but also the unsung heroes whose stories deserve to be told.

Let us look to precedents like the Hollywood Walk of Fame and other similar installations around the world that honour influential figures in their communities. It's time for Toronto to join in recognizing the diverse achievements and legacies of the LGBTQ community by commemorating them in the very place many have fought for visibility and rights.
