Thank you again for your support — the Parliament petition for a National NHS Railcard has now reached 1,300 signatures, and the campaign continues to grow!
I wanted to share a bit more about why this is such an urgent issue, especially for NHS staff like myself who rely on trains to get to work.
As a CICU nurse, I work day and night shifts — and the cost of commuting changes week to week. My flexi season ticket costs £198.40 for 8 days — that's £24.80 per day. A peak return ticket is £28.30. On some weeks, I get a slight saving. On others, I lose out entirely.
To make matters worse, Railcards don’t apply to season tickets (except the 16–17 Saver). Veterans pay less than £19 for the same return I pay £28.30 for — yet NHS workers have no support at all.
Many supporters have told me we should travel for free. I understand and agree — but right now, I’m simply asking for:
- A Railcard for NHS staff
- That includes discounts on season tickets
- Like the ones MPs, veterans, and students already benefit from
