Hi everyone,
I wanted to share a quick update on what’s been happening behind the scenes.
After launching this campaign, I’ve been doing everything I can to get it heard — using my own time, my own voice, and even my own money to promote this message. I’ve now emailed every hospital I could find in the UK. Some of you might not know that I was actually told off by HR for using my work email for that — but I'll keep trying with my personal email.
Because this campaign matters.
I've also printed and shared QR code posters across my hospital, added the petitions to our Nursing Workforce newsletter, and encouraged colleagues to pass them on to other trusts — always making it clear this is a personal campaign, not endorsed by my employer.
I've written to the new Transport Secretary, Louise Haigh, and tweeted her, hoping she’ll listen. After all, Transport Focus themselves have said they agree with the problem, but they can't make the change — only government can.
I’m creating videos using AI tools, posting to social media daily, and navigating rejection from NHS and commuting Facebook groups that label this campaign as “political.” But to me, this isn’t about politics. It’s about dignity, fairness, and the simple ability to get to work without it costing us everything.
So many of you have shared, promoted, and signed this petition without knowing me personally — and for that, I am deeply thankful.
We're almost 1,700 strong on the Parliament petition now — and that’s thanks to all of you. Please don’t stop sharing. Even if we don’t get everything we ask for, we’re proving that NHS staff can be heard.
With respect and hope,
Alicia Arias
