The Issue

Our children in Brighton 2nd playground, who have a passion for soccer, deserve a safe and designated space to play. Unfortunately, they are currently forced to share a small resin-floored area with toddlers and older children where the swings are, which is not only cramped but also poses dangerous conditions. The mixing of these age groups in such a limited space increases the risk of accidents and prevents our kids from enjoying their time playing freely and safely.

Moreover, the surrounding environment exacerbates these dangers. The air is thick with smog from nearby smoking, and elderly gamblers often occupy the area, adding to an unsuitable atmosphere. Compounding these issues, marijuana smoke from the basketball courts and boardwalk infiltrates the playground vicinity, creating an unhealthy environment for our children. Furthermore, the presence of homeless individuals consuming alcohol and, at times, urinating near toddler playground equipment compounds the challenges, making the playground far from an ideal location for young ones.

We, as parents and community members, have been volunteering our time and efforts to keep this playground clean and safe for our children. However, our efforts can only go so far without adequate support and infrastructure from the responsible authorities.

We call on the local government and city officials to promptly establish a designated mini pitch exclusively for children in Brighton 2nd playground. This will not only provide a secure area for them to play soccer but also help segregate age groups, thereby reducing the risks of accidents. Allocating a specific area for children to play will ensure that they can engage in recreational activities in a healthy and safe environment, free from the unsavory elements currently plaguing the playground.

By investing in a dedicated space, we can protect our children’s well-being, foster their love for soccer, and contribute positively to their physical and social development. It is time for a change, and we require immediate action to guarantee the safety and happiness of our community’s young ones.

Support us in making Brighton 2nd playground a safe haven for our kids. Please sign this petition to urge the authorities to take necessary steps and bring about this much-needed improvement.
