Here is the calculation :

Cost per km for Underground part - Rs. 552 Crores

Cost per km for Elevated part        - Rs. 200 Crores

(The above figures are from RTI Reply of Delhi Metro over a year ago. The figures are mostly higher now. However, the proportion of increase would be similar in both Elevated and U/G and so it will not affect the difference calculated below significantly).

Cost for Nagawara Route : Underground 6.59Kms : Rs. 3637.68 Crores + Elevated 3.81 Kms : 762 Crores. TOTAL - Rs. 4399.68 Crores, say Rs. 4400 Crores.

Cost for Mekhri Circle Route : Underground NIL + Elevated 6.22Kms : 1244 Crores.

SAVINGS = 4400 - 1244 = 3156 Crores !!!

ONE OF THE MAJOR REASONS HIGHLIGHTED FOR SHIFTING LOCATION OF CANTONMENT METRO STATION FROM OPPOSITE MAIN ENTRANCE OF CANTONMENT RAILWAY STATION TO THE PLAYGROUND WAS A SAVING OF RS. 1000 CRORES. The then MD Mr. Pradeep Singh Kharola kept repeating "Saving of Rs. 1000 Crores is a huge reason for shifting".

NOW, BMRCL MUST ACT ON THIS OBVIOUS SAVING OF OVER RS. 3000 CRORES, AND ACT QUICKLY........ APART FROM THE HUGE SAVINGS, THIS ROUTE WILL BE EASIER AND FASTER TO BUILD, WILL ENSURE TIGHT INTEGRATION WITH RAILWAYS, WILL SAVE THE PLAYGROUND AND WILL GIVE HUGE AND QUICKER RELIEF TO BENGALURU'S CONGESTION AND POLLUTION.
