The Respondus Lockdown Browser creates a massive privacy infringement for users. Since Respondus is a third party website it’s unclear how much information It takes from students. According to the terms and conditions there’s no reassurance that our privacy is protected under the event of hacking or in general. For example, students in Western using a similar lockdown browser were hacked, having there information compromised. Being forced to show your surroundings is an invasion of privacy and providing your government ID to the website is a cause of concern. Not to mention, there’s uncontrollable factors, such as family members entering the cams, invading their personal privacy while also getting flagged. Many student live in small apartments or are around pets, having a quiet area is nearly impossible for many students. The added stress of being watched and being flagged is evident for many students and leads them to perform poorly on midterms. The expectations that our eyes be completely on the  screen during the duration of the midterm is inconsiderate. Exams are stressful as it is and having additional pressure of  cams is concerning. Lastly many student may not have webcams leaving them pressured to purchase one, during these time it’s extremely insensitive to insist on this. Many classes have ceased the use of Respondus webcams, such as Psyc *1000,  Phys 1130, Bio 1050, Soc 1100. Many universities require students to sign a document of academic integrity to combat cheating. Please consider these reasons, in order to terminate the use of Respondus
