Extend shared traffic zones in west Redfern/Darlington; implement traffic calming measures

The issue

Slower streets in our neighborhood will be safer and more livable

Local councils around the world are cutting speeds in high-pedestrian areas. Central London's streets will drop to 20km/h by May after trials halved road deaths.

Research shows that if a pedestrian is hit by a car travelling 28km/h, the risk of death is 5 per cent. If the impact speed is 36km/h, the risk increases to 10 per cent.
A car moving 57km/h increases the risk to 50 per cent.

Extending the existing shared zones to the local streets will make these streets safer and increase the livability of the public spaces in our local area.
