Make it illegal to label high level jobs as "Entry Level"
The Issue
Major employers have used COVID 19 as a chance to manipulate the workforce. It's well known that the average "entry level" job now requires 3-10 years experience along, multiple internships, and an unreasonable amount of skills (i.e. being proficient in 4 programming languages). They are effectively taking mid level positions and renaming them as entry level to pay a lower salary to the employee.
This is usually balanced out by competition in the free market, as businesses fight for the best workers. However, COVID has drastically changed the job market, creating an unbalance in the power that current employers have over job seekers.
It is negative to the community in the following ways:
1) High level workers are being exploited, as they are working a high position but being paid as entry level employees. This also stunts career growth, as the employee moves backwards. These employees will generally be older and may have families to support, so the pay cut can be a huge problem.
2) New graduates are unable to develop their careers. It appears that by the time COVID is over, at least 2 classes will have graduated from college. That means twice as many grads fighting for the same entry level positions (and have to compete with mid level employees now). If the economy recovers slowly (as after 2008), this will likely be 3 or 4 graduate classes. We will end up with a huge backup of entry level employees, because new graduates never develop skills, and mid level workers are stuck on entry level positions, so they never move up either.
3) Long term, the US's economy will suffer as more people can't get jobs. What happens when this generation of new grads, who will be behind in work experience, have to run businesses and create a good economy? The various skills developed throughout one's career are pivotal to both individual and macroeconomic growth.
This situation is nothing short of corporations using COVID 19 to take advantage of desperate, unemployed Americans.
The government should pass temporary legal requirements on what defines a job's level. It's in both the community's and business's interests, as long term both will collapse if young people aren't given an opportunity to learn how to contribute to the economy.
