corporal punishment of a child should be illegal

The Issue

So I was told the other day that in the state of mn, it is legal to beat your children with an object. I was told that I couldn’t report a suspected abuse because that suspected abuse is legal. I believe that everyone has their own way of parenting and you get to choose how you discipline your child but when it comes to physical abuse that’s where the line needs to be drawn. I don’t give af if that’s what your parents did or if that’s just how you were raised, it’s time to find a better solution. One that does not involve abuse of a vulnerable child. You might think it works and that you taught them a “lesson” but the truth is you’re teaching them that it’s okay to be abused, because they are a “bad” child or they made a bad decision which majority of the time is actually perfectly normal actions for the capacity of their brain at their age. You’re distilling in their minds that they deserve this kind of abuse. So maybe it doesn’t effect them right now because they might believe this is normal and that all parents beat their children for discipline because that is all they know. They have no other experience to understand that it is wrong. But later on in their life they won’t EVER forget it. They might still believe abuse is normal so they will carry that out in their relationships as they get older, they will choose toxic partners and endure the abuse because that’s all they ever knew. I just can’t let this go, I’ve been thinking about it since the second this child confided in me. They told me for a reason so that I could help them. I am not going to let this go, until something is done to change the action of parents who are still using physical abuse as a form of discipline.
