The Issue

For thousands of residents, students, workers, and daily commuters near Kaniminike Village on the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway (NH-275), crossing the highway has become a life-threatening daily struggle.

The Foot Over Bridge (FOB) opposite Christ University, Kengeri Campus, was supposed to provide a safe crossing for pedestrians. However, despite construction beginning long ago, the project has remained incomplete and unusable for an extended period.

In response to public complaints, NHAI officially acknowledged the issue and stated that the FOB work would be completed by 31 March 2026. That deadline has now passed, yet the bridge is still not operational for public use.

Meanwhile, pedestrians continue to risk their lives every day crossing a high-speed access-controlled expressway where vehicles move at dangerous speeds.

This stretch witnesses regular movement of:

  • Residents of Kaniminike Village
  • Students and staff of Christ University
  • Women, senior citizens, and workers
  • Daily commuters accessing nearby area

In the absence of a functioning FOB:

  • People are forced to cross directly on the highway
  • Multiple accidents and near-miss incidents have already been reported
  • A pedestrian fatality has also been highlighted by residents
  • Poor lighting and non-functional streetlights worsen the danger during nights

This is not just an inconvenience. It is a serious public safety failure.

The Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway has been operational for years and continues to collect toll revenue daily. A basic pedestrian safety facility at a known crossing point should not remain incomplete beyond committed deadlines.

We, the undersigned citizens, residents, students, commuters, and concerned members of the public, demand that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI):

  1. Immediately complete all pending FOB construction work at Kaniminike Village
  2. Open the Foot Over Bridge for public use at the earliest
  3. Deploy temporary pedestrian safety measures until the FOB becomes operational
  4. Ensure proper lighting and visibility along the affected stretch
  5. Publicly announce a revised and final completion timeline

Every further delay puts lives at risk.

No student, villager, or commuter should have to gamble with their life just to cross a road.

Sign this petition to demand urgent action before another tragedy occurs.
