The Issue

My name is Jane Doe. Having a job as a domiciliary worker, my days start early at 6:30 a.m. and run late into the night, up until 11 p.m., without any breaks. In spite of the number of hours worked daily, unfortunately, I only receive compensation for the duration of my visit to a client, which is typically 8 and a half hours.

Domiciliary care is a strenuous and demanding field; we commute, drive long distances, and spend most of our time tending to our client's needs. The current method of compensation, which pays us solely for the work time with the client, is unreasonable and doesn't account for the considerable time and effort spent travelling.

Domiciliary care workers in the United Kingdom, of whom there are approximately 696,500 as per the UK Homecare Association 2019, are in the same dilemma. We endure similar working conditions and receive pay based on work time alone, without any consideration for the miles travelled and the extra hours spent (Office for National Statistics, 2019).

It's high time the authorities re-evaluated the system and shapeshifted it to a more inclusive, comprehensive compensation plan, that takes into account all the work-related factors. We propose a threefold approach to this - including compensation for client visits, mileage, and travel time.

By signing this petition, you lend your voice to hundreds of thousands of domiciliary care workers who deserve just compensation for the multidimensional work they do. We hope for your support on this critical issue. Together, let's make working conditions fairer for domiciliary care workers. Please sign and share this petition.
