The issue
The Deforestation of the Amazon.
The deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest is an alarming problem because of how big of an issue it is. It affects every living creatures daily lives and in a few decades, maybe even years, the results will be detrimental and irreversible. It is a problem because the Amazon is home to thousands of different animal species, and plants, as well as indigenous people. By cutting it down we lose the biodiversity of it, and the money that is made every year from tourism. If we can find a way to sustainably farm it so we can get the many resources it offers, whilst still keeping the biodiversity and environment the same then we will have a perfect balance and a solution to the problem.
Deforestation of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil has surged to its highest level since 2008, the country's space agency (Inpe) reports. A total of 11,088 sq km (4,281 sq miles) of rainforest were destroyed from August 2019 to July 2020, This is a 9.5% increase from the previous year. The Amazon is a vital carbon store that slows down the pace of global warming. Scientists say it has suffered losses at an accelerated rate since Jair Bolsonaro took office in January 2019. The Brazilian president has encouraged agriculture and mining activities in the world's largest rainforest. The Amazon is home to about three million species of plants and animals, and one million indigenous people.
Why is it being cut down?
It is being cut down due to the ever-growing human consumption and population. This is the biggest cause of forest destruction due to the vast amounts of resources, products, and services we take from it. Direct human causes of deforestation include logging, agriculture, cattle ranching, mining, oil extraction and dam-building.
