We believe that democracies need information to flourish. In light of critical events unfolding across North Africa and the Middle East, tsunamis and nuclear crisis ravaging Japan, and riots in the streets of London, now--more than ever--we Americans demand to know what's going on around us, both at home and abroad.

Al Jazeera English (AJE) is an internationally acclaimed news network that broadcasts to over 250 million households in 120 countries on 6 continents, yet it is available in only 5 places in the entire U.S. (Washington, DC; Burlington, VT; Bristol County, RI: Toledo, OH; and New York City, NY).

Right now, Comcast subscribers in Washington, D.C. have full cable access to the channel. Their customers in other regions, however, don't. This needs to change. As one of the largest cable providers in the U.S., it is time for Comcast Cable to get with the program and provide its customers with full cable access to Al Jazeera English.

Please sign the petition today and help bring access to this valuable resources to all Americans. Help us spread the word by sharing it on Facebook, Twitter, blogs, etc. Retweet us @demandaje using #iwantmyaje.

Letter to
Senior Director of Corporate Communications Jenni Moyer
Comcast
I expect Comcast Cable to provide their customers with nationwide access to a diverse lineup of high-quality international news. But currently there is a sizable gap in the news networks Comcast carries. I encourage you to close this gap by offering Al Jazeera English as part of your television offering, alongside other news outlets such as CNN and FOX News.

Al Jazeera English is a 24-hour news network with more than 70 bureaus worldwide that broadcast to over 250 million households in over 120 countries, from Israel, to Canada, to Honduras. Yet only five areas in the U.S. have full cable access (New York, N.Y.; Washington, D.C.; Burlington, VT; Toledo, OH; and Bristol County, R.I.).

As of August 1, 2011, 2 million cable viewers in New York City can watch Al Jazeera English on Time Warner Cable and other carriers and markets are opening up, too. This is a huge win for freedom of the press and freedom of information.

We believe that democracies need information to flourish. In light of critical events unfolding across North Africa and the Middle East, tsunamis and nuclear crisis ravaging Japan, and riots in the streets of London, now --more than ever--we Americans demand the right to know what's going on around us, both at home and abroad. Al Jazeera English provides us a window into the world.

It is my hope that Comcast will fullfill its stated promise to "bring more choice in content and a better quality television" to its customers by adopting Al Jazeera English as part of its lineup across the U.S.

I want Al Jazeera English, and I want it now on Comcast!

Sincerely,
